out like lambs

some mps from the jersey-based "folk" duo out like lambs landed in my inbox a few days ago, and after a quick listen to their stand-out track bygones i knew i didn't want to let these guys slip through my fingers.
their songs are like full-bodied hymns, filled with call-and-response chorales, carefully woven wit and intricate multi-layered arrangements. the latter being what is most instantly noticeable about their music, that is, the sheer range and number of instruments and layers involved. and [vocalist] rachel's, at times indecipherable, lyrics readily lend her voice as another unique instrument to the already raucous orchestra - a quick peek at their myspace page show a troupe of over a dozen friends and supporting musicians who contributed by playing everything from a saw to a mandolin.
out like lambs isn't quite exactly summer-time music but their slow, swinging, songs are definitely perfect for that unexpected quiet, low-key day. mp3s after the jump.
