the tracey fragments
i stayed in last night and had a self-defined "old lady night" which i actually kinda feel good about and am considering making a monthly/bi-monthly occurrence. last night in particular, it consisted of laying off the booze and the brooklyn brouhaha and intsead, cleaning my room, listening to some old records, buying stocks, watching a movie, and reading. anyway, this post was intended to be more about the movie i watched instead of my lack-luster social life. haha...

i think the tracey fragments is officially one of the weirdest movies i've seen, second only to that time i tried to watch the animated film the fantastic planet after eating mushrooms... anywho its an independent film out of canada - ellen page's first after juno - and it was scored by broken social scene. the music was great and featured a patti smith cover by land of talk's elizabeth powell which was pretty awesome. if anyone can find me an mp3 of it, i'll send you a bread 'n butter care package... and in the mean time go watch it on surfthechannel.com - not that i condone illegal streaming media - i highly suggest buying a copy of the film if that's an option for you. either way, watch it an let me know what you think, cause i'm still scratching my head over it...
but what i thought was more interesting then the film alone, was its accompanying project, tracey re:fragmented. the entire movie and all extra footage, deleted scenes, soundtracks, etc. were made legally available for download as torrent files. users downloaded the files and made their own short films, music videos, trailers, and even remade the storyline of the movie. all submissions were then entered in a contest where the winners were selected to be included in the DVD release. all in all, a very innovative exploration in the evolution of the narrative, and a trend i'd certainly like to see more of in the future.
oh and p.s. not that's its anyones business but... ellen page? or ellen page? ok, that's my lame hollywood gossip quota for 2009...

and which one was a patti smith cover? i have the soundtrack
it wasn't on the soundtrack, hence my offer of presents for anyone who can find an mp3 of it for me. sigh.
